Pet Drop-In Visits in Halifax & Dartmouth
Cat & Canine Comforts — Care Where They're Most Comfortable
Sometimes they don't need a big adventure. They just need someone to show up.
Cat & Canine Comforts provides personalized in-home drop-in visits for dogs, cats and multi-pet households throughout select areas of Halifax and Dartmouth, Nova Scotia.
Whether your dog needs a bathroom break while you're working a long shift, your cat needs care while you're away, or your pets simply need some company, each visit is tailored around their normal routine and individual needs.
Fresh water. Full bellies. Clean litter boxes. Bathroom breaks. Playtime. Enrichment. Companionship. And, of course, plenty of attention for the pets who want it.
Familiar Home. Familiar Routine. Personalized Care.
For many pets, home is their happy place. Their favourite bed is there. Their toys are there. Their familiar smells are there.
Drop-in visits allow your pet to receive care without leaving the environment they know best.
Rather than asking every pet to adapt to a boarding facility, daycare or unfamiliar home, I come to them.
Your pet gets to keep as much of their normal routine as reasonably possible while receiving the care, attention and companionship they need.
What Can a Drop-In Visit Include?
Every pet and household is different, so visits are tailored to the care we've agreed upon beforehand.
Depending on your pet's needs, a Cat & Canine Comforts visit may include:
Feeding and meal preparation
Refreshing water
Bathroom breaks
Backyard time
Litter box scooping
Playtime
Enrichment activities
Companionship and affection
Care for shy or nervous pets
Medication according to established instructions
Reinforcing familiar routines and cues
Basic pet-related tidying
Checking your pet's general wellbeing
A visit update so you know how things went
Some pets want to play for the entire visit. Some want cuddles. Some want dinner and would prefer that I respect their personal space afterward.
All are valid.
Drop-In Visits for Dogs
A Break in Their Day
Long workday?
Working a shift?
Have plans that keep you away from home longer than usual?
A drop-in can give your dog a much-needed bathroom break, some movement, enrichment and company between the time you leave and the time you return.
For dogs who don't need a full walk—or when a walk isn't appropriate—a visit can be structured around their individual routine.
That might mean backyard time, play, enrichment, feeding, companionship or simply an opportunity to stretch their legs and take a bathroom break.
Reactive Dogs Welcome
For some reactive or sensitive dogs, having care provided at home can be especially valuable. There is no requirement to navigate a busy daycare, unfamiliar dogs or a group environment.
We'll discuss your dog's triggers, routines, handling requirements, access procedures and established management strategies before services begin.
Dogs who need additional time to become comfortable with a new caregiver may require additional introductions before solo visits begin.

Drop-In Visits for Cats
Because Cats Deserve More Than a Full Food Bowl
Cat & Canine Comforts provides care that goes beyond simply putting out enough food and hoping for the best.
Visits can include meals, fresh water, litter box care, play, enrichment, companionship, medication where appropriate and checking that your cat appears comfortable and well. Just as importantly, care can be adapted to your cat's personality.
Multi-Pet Households Welcome
Dogs.
Cats.
Or a home containing a little bit of everything. Drop-in visits can be especially convenient for households with multiple pets because their care can happen in one familiar environment.
During your meet & greet, we'll discuss each pet individually—including their feeding routines, personalities, relationships with one another, medication, boundaries and care requirements.
Because the amount of care required can vary considerably between households, we'll also determine whether the requested visit length provides enough time to safely and appropriately complete everyone's care.
Medication & Time-Sensitive Care
Some pets need more than a visit within a broad part of the day.
If your pet has medication or another care requirement that needs to happen within a particular timeframe, please tell me when booking.
Time-sensitive care is considered when organizing the day's schedule and may be prioritized over services with more flexible timing.
For example, if two clients request visits around noon but one pet requires medication within a specific timeframe while the other simply needs a flexible midday bathroom break, the medication visit would receive scheduling priority. Medication must be provided according to clear instructions established by the pet's guardian and, where applicable, their veterinary professional.
Please provide complete and accurate information about your pet's medication and how they typically respond to administration during onboarding.
Flexible Care for Shift Workers
Pet care shouldn't only work for people with a Monday-to-Friday, nine-to-five schedule.
Spicy Paws understands that people work:
Early mornings
Evenings
Overnight shifts
Weekends
Holidays
Long shifts
Rotating schedules
Where availability allows, drop-in visits can be arranged around non-traditional work schedules.
Maybe your dog needs a visit shortly before you're expected home after an overnight shift.
Maybe you're working twelve hours and need someone to break up their day.
Maybe your schedule changes from week to week.
Tell me what you need, and we'll determine what can reasonably be accommodated.
Care That Respects Their Boundaries
Not every pet wants the same kind of attention.
A dog may need a little extra time before they're comfortable with someone entering their home.
A shy cat may prefer watching from underneath the bed.
Another cat may be sitting on my lap approximately fourteen seconds after I arrive.
Individualized care means paying attention to those differences.
I won't force unnecessary interactions simply because affection or playtime was planned.
The goal is to provide the care your pet needs while respecting what they're communicating.
What Happens Before the First Visit?
Every new Spicy Paws client begins with a complimentary meet & greet.
For drop-in clients, this is our opportunity to walk through your pet's care in the environment where I'll actually be providing it.
We'll discuss things such as:
Feeding routines
Food preparation
Water
Bathroom routines
Litter box care
Medication, where applicable
Personality and preferences
Triggers or behavioural considerations
Favourite toys and enrichment
Handling preferences
Household pet dynamics
Access instructions
Pet-safe areas of the home
Emergency contacts
Veterinary information
Anything else I should know before caring for your pet
If your pet needs additional time to become comfortable with me, we can discuss whether additional introductions or trial visits would be appropriate.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do you provide drop-in visits for both cats and dogs?
Yes.
Cat & Canine Comforts provides personalized drop-in care for both cats and dogs, as well as multi-pet households.
Do you walk my dog during a drop-in?
Drop-in visits and Happy Wags Private Walks serve different purposes.
A drop-in can include an appropriate bathroom opportunity and activity based on your dog's established care plan, but clients looking for a dedicated walk should book a private walking service.
Can you care for my reactive dog?
Yes, reactive dogs are welcome to inquire.
We'll discuss your dog's triggers, handling needs, home-entry routine and other relevant information before services begin.
Some dogs may require additional introductions before I can safely provide solo care.
My cat hides from strangers. Is that okay?
Absolutely.
A shy cat doesn't need to be forced out of hiding for me to complete their routine care. I'll respect their boundaries while monitoring them as reasonably possible and completing the agreed-upon care.
Can you administer medication?
Medication may be included where it falls within the scope of the service and can be safely administered according to established instructions.
Please disclose medication requirements when inquiring, including whether administration is time-sensitive.
Can you accommodate shift workers?
Where scheduling and availability allow, yes.
Spicy Paws intentionally offers flexibility for clients working shifts and non-traditional hours. Tell me about your schedule when you inquire so we can discuss available options.
Can you care for multiple pets during one visit?
Yes, depending on the household and care requirements.
We'll discuss each pet during the meet & greet and determine whether the requested visit length allows enough time to appropriately complete everyone's care.
Can I book drop-ins while I'm away overnight?
Potentially, depending on your pets' needs, the number and timing of visits required, and availability.
We'll discuss whether drop-in visits provide an appropriate level of care for your individual pets or whether another service would better meet their needs.
A Little Comfort While You're Away
To you, it might be a fifteen-minute visit.
To your dog, it's the person who showed up in the middle of a long day.
To your cat, it's a fresh litter box, dinner served on schedule and—depending on their opinion of me—some playtime, a cuddle or the respectful maintenance of a three-metre personal bubble.
They get their routine.
They get their familiar surroundings.
And you get the reassurance of knowing someone is checking in.
Care where they're most comfortable.
For the sweet, the spicy & everything in between.
